About Me

Hi! I’m David Rodríguez, a Senior Drupal Developer and Drupal Architect with more than ten years of experience building, maintaining, and evolving Drupal-based platforms.

My work sits somewhere between software development, Drupal architecture, technical leadership, and platform engineering. Over the years, I’ve worked on projects ranging from corporate websites and content platforms to complex digital ecosystems involving custom modules, third-party integrations, authentication systems, search platforms, automated workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.

Drupal has been the common thread throughout most of my professional career.

I’m also an Open Source contributor and a long-time Linux user, mainly working with Debian and Ubuntu. I strongly identify with the collaborative culture behind Open Source software: sharing knowledge, improving things together, and contributing back whenever possible.

You can find my contributions to the Drupal ecosystem on my Drupal.org profile.

Drupal, architecture, and engineering

My professional work is primarily focused on Drupal development and architecture, particularly around modern Drupal projects and the technical ecosystem surrounding them.

Some of the areas I regularly work with include:

  • Drupal architecture and custom module development
  • Backend development with PHP and Symfony components
  • Third-party services and API integrations
  • Authentication, SSO, and access-control systems
  • Search platforms and search architecture
  • Docker and DDEV-based development environments
  • Automated testing and quality assurance
  • CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
  • Performance, caching, and infrastructure-related concerns
  • Drupal upgrades, migrations, and long-term platform maintenance
  • Technical analysis and engineering decisions across multiple projects

I particularly enjoy working on problems that go beyond implementing a single feature: understanding how the different pieces of a platform interact, designing maintainable solutions, improving development workflows, and helping projects evolve without accumulating unnecessary complexity.

Throughout my career, I’ve also been closely involved in projects for public administrations and institutions at local, regional, national, and international levels.

Using Drupal, I’ve worked on corporate websites, internal management tools, intranets, digital services, content platforms, and communication channels connecting institutions with their users.

You can find more about my professional background on my LinkedIn profile and some of my code and Open Source work on GitLab.

Drupal community, talks, and training

Besides development, I’ve also been involved in Drupal training, technical talks, workshops, and knowledge sharing.

Over the years, I’ve given talks and sessions about Drupal and related technologies. Some of the slides from those sessions — many of them in Spanish — are available on my Speaker Deck profile.

I’ve always considered knowledge sharing an important part of working with Open Source technologies. Writing documentation, publishing solutions, giving talks, helping other developers, and sharing the things we learn while solving real problems are all part of the same culture.

The Russian Lullaby

The Russian Lullaby is my personal technical site.

Its name comes from one of my favorite jazz standards, Russian Lullaby, composed by Irving Berlin in 1927 and later interpreted by many jazz musicians like John Coltrane.

This site is essentially my place for documenting things I discover while working: Drupal, PHP, Linux, development environments, debugging, DevOps, APIs, architecture, tools, experiments, strange bugs, and the occasional technical rabbit hole.

Some articles are carefully structured tutorials. Others are simply notes about problems I’ve encountered and solutions I don’t want to have to rediscover six months later.

If those notes happen to help somebody else along the way, even better.

Other places where I write and share things

Over the years, I’ve accumulated technical notes, snippets, tutorials, and experiments across several platforms:

My technical sketchbook contains Drupal tips, experiments, and things worth remembering, while my GitLab snippets are mostly small solutions extracted from everyday development work.

Tutorials and articles

I’ve also written technical tutorials and articles for other platforms, in both English and Spanish, including:

A little more about me

Outside the strictly technical side of things, you can find a slightly more personal and informal introduction in my personal sketchbook.

It includes some background about me, assorted experiments, and, for reasons that probably made sense at the time, a few pictures from my childhood.

After many years working with Drupal, I still enjoy discovering how things work, breaking them, fixing them, documenting the process, and learning something new along the way.

That’s basically what this site is about.

Welcome to The Russian Lullaby.
